what's the difference in 2D. 3D/4D, & HD ultrasound?

What is Ultrasound Imaging?

Ultrasound technology uses high frequency sound waves. The waves bounce off tissue and return to the ultrasound machine at different frequencies, depending on the density of the tissue. Our ultrasound equipment is a highly specialized computer that translates the returning sound waves into images for viewing on its computer monitor. We use a GE Voluson Expert and is an FDA approved ultrasound machine. Only the very best for you!

What is the difference in 2D, 3D, 4D and HD?

2D, 3D, 4D and HD Live are trademarked terminology used in the industry to distinguish the difference types of pictures and videos that can be provided. 2D ultrasounds are the traditional black & white ultrasounds you have probably seen before. The pictures show the skeletal (outline) of the baby. You also get to see the baby moving in 2D! This is still the best technology for gathering measurements of the baby and ensuring baby is developing as expected. HD is the newest and greatest technology in the advances of ultrasound! HD uses a virtual light source to render more realistic views of the baby. It is a virtual digital flashlight adding shadows and light reflection to create a deeper and more refined 3D image with exceptional anatomical realism. *Light is not actually used* These advances also give us the leading edge with standard 3D/4D imaging quality.3D ultrasound shows the tissue of the baby, which is more like real pictures. We can see the roundness of the baby's face, the shape of the nose and the contours of the lips. The color is computer enhances to make the pictures more appealing and not the actual color of baby.

When is the best time to have an ultrasound?

We can perform an ultrasound at any time during the pregnancy, but the best 3D/4D ultrasound results are generally between 24-36 weeks. Earlier in pregnancy baby is still small and skeletal. Very late in the pregnancy, the baby gets crowded and can be difficult to view the face and obtain the images you expect. You must be at least 13 weeks for our gender determination guarantee. Click to view calendar to help you determine the best time to schedule your 3D/4D ultrasound appointment. Click here to see our calendar!

I'm having twins. Do you charge extra?

No, we do not charge extra if you are carrying more than one baby. We do, however, recommend our Premium Glimpse in order to spend sufficient time on each baby. We also recommend you come in earlier in order to avoid overcrowding. The best time is 25-28 weeks.

When will I receive the pictures and video?

All of your keepsake items will be ready for you to take with you or be sent to your phone/ email right away! We record everything during the session so you don't miss a thing. We want you to get to see your baby yawn, stretch and even hiccup!

Will we be able to tell if the baby is a girl or a boy?

We can now determine gender beginning at 6 weeks pregnant using a simple DNA test. You definitely want to learn more about our SneakPeek Clinical test! Results are available as quickly as next day** We are happy to visually check gender with ultrasound. This is included in all of our packages except the "Mini Glimpse". We guarantee we can determine gender with ultrasound after your baby reaches 13 weeks. Gender determination relies on cooperation of the baby and several other factors outside our control. But, if you are at least 13 weeks along and we can't tell the baby's gender, we will bring you back for free!

Do I need to have a full bladder or drink a lot of water?

The more hydrated your body is, the more transparent the amniotic fluid is and the clearer the pictures. Being well hydrated can greatly improve the clarity of the 3D/4D ultrasound pictures. We recommend full bladder if you are less than 18 weeks. We also recommend a light snack or juice before your session to help baby wake up for the show.

Can I bring anyone with me to watch the ultrasound?

Absolutely! Our studio room is large enough to accommodate several family members and friends. Bring everyone you want! We have 3 screens in the room including a 70" HDTV that dads love.

Do I need an appointment?

Yes. You can call to make your appointment or you can book online at any time. Click here to book your appointment. We appreciate 24 hour advance notice for cancellations.

Will my insurance pay for the appointment?

Since our ultrasounds are considered elective and not based on medical necessity, insurance companies will not cover our services. We do accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover and cash.

Some 3D ultrasound facilities offer Limited Diagnostics. Do you offer diagnostic ultrasound?

"Limited Diagnostics" refers to Gender Determination, position of the baby, position of the placenta (unless low lying) and heart rate. We are happy to offer this service in all of our sessions. Please remember this is NOT meant to replace your complete diagnostic ultrasound with your healthcare provider.

Do I need to bring anything to the appointment?

No. We have everything for you in our office to add to the package you choose. All ultrasounds come with a digital video link and images sent directly to your phone or email. You can also add a custom thumb drive with your files. This includes bonus video clips!

Can I bring my own music if I want specific songs on my DVD?

Yes! You can bring your own music. Please have your playlist ready to go on your iPod, phone, or other portable music device. We do have a great playlist in our studio ready so you do not have to bring anything.

I lost my images/video. Can I get a copy?

We do keep images and video on file which requires large electronic storage. We are happy to provide you with a thumb drive with your images and video file for $15.
