What is the difference between 2D, 3D, 4D, and HD?

2D, 3D, 4D, and HD Live are trademarked terminology used in the ultrasound industry to distinguish the different types of pictures and videos that can be provided.  

2D ultrasounds are the traditional black and white ultrasounds you have probably seen before and the most commonly used.  The imaging shows the skeletal outline of the baby. You an also witness realtime movement in 2D! This is still the best technology for gathering measurements and ensuring baby is developing as expected.  It is also the mode used to determine gender. 

3D shows the surface tissue of the baby, which is more like real pictures.  We can see the roundness of baby's face, the shape of the nose, and the contours of the lips, just to name a few.  The color is computer enhanced to make the pictures more appealing and not the actual color of baby.

4D is simply the live motion of the 3D images strung together.  The system we use, GE Voluson E8, provides the fastest and closest realtime m movement of any ultrasound systemic the industry.  We chose the best for you!

HD or HD Live is the newest and greatest technology in the advances of ultrasound.  HD uses a virtual light source to render more realistic and defined views of baby. It is a virtual digital flashlight adding shadows and light reflection to create a deeper and more refined 3D image with exceptional anatomical realism.  *Light is. not actually emitted*
